Men’s Tennis Closes Fall Season at Cooper Outdoor Advertising … – UTRGV Athletics

CORPUS CHRISTI – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Vaqueros men’s tennis team closed its fall season as competition wrapped up at the Cooper Outdoor Advertising Islander Open Sunday.  
 
Sophomore McAllen Memorial alum Agustin Salazar captured a doubles victory in the Flight B south final with Jonah Smith from Lamar. Salazar/Smith handily defeated Peter Le/Ryan Boone from Prairie View A&M. 
 
In singles action, Salazar fell 6-1, 6-3 to Rice’s Petro Kuzmenok in the Flight A west final. Freshman Ivo Isqueiro won the first set of his Flight C 3-4 playoff against Lamar’s Haruki Omori-Cowie, 6-3, but dropped the second, 0-6. Isqueiro battled in the 10-point tiebreaker but Omori-Cowie clinched the win, taking the final set 1-0 (14:12). 
 
The Vaqueros will open the 2024 dual match season in January. UTRGV will host the men’s and women’s Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Tennis Tournaments in April at the HEB Tennis Center at Pendleton Park in Harlingen.
