Tennis legend Pete Sampras makes heartbreaking announcement, asks fans for prayers – PennLive

The tennis world is praying for legendary American player Pete Sampras after he announced that his wife, Bridgette, is battling cancer.

The 52-year-old made the announcement Sunday with an announcement.

“As most have come to know, I am a pretty quiet and private person,” Sampras wrote. “However, this past year has been an exceptionally challenging time for my family, and I have decided to share what’s been going on.”

Sampras then revealed that Bridgette was diagnosed with ovarian cancer back in December.

“Since then, she has had major surgery, pushed through chemotherapy and continues with targeted maintenance therapy,” he wrote. “It is hard to watch someone you love go through a challenge like this. However, seeing our boys step up and be such strong supporters of Bridgette, myself and each other has been amazing. Watching Bridgette continue to be an incredible mom and wife through it all has been inspiring.”

Sampras said he “also learned that it is very hard to reach for support when something is simply too hard to talk about.”

“With that said, I will end this by humbly asking for good thoughts and prayers for our family as Bridgette continues to thrive on her healing journey,” he finished by writing. “Thank you.”

As expected, Sampras received plenty of support on social media following his revelation.

“All the best to your wife and family Pete,” Andy Murray wrote with an emoji of praying hands.

“Pete, breaks my heart to hear about Bridgette,” another person responded. “Positive thoughts for your family. Think strong, stay positive. Bridgette will get healthy.”

“Praying for your family,” another person wrote.

And there were countless others showing their support.

Bridgette, 50, was Miss Teen USA in 1990, and is a former actress who had roles in “Billy Madison” and “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” and was also in TV shows such as “Fraiser,” “Saved by the Bell,” and “CSI: Miami.”
