The 2023-24 high school girls basketball season begins Friday, and here’s a list of the top returning players from Abilene and Big Country teams:

Taryn Moore, Abilene High
6-1 junior foward/post
Moore averaged 5.2 points and 4.9 rebounds for the Lady Eagles last season.
Alliyah Ralston, Abilene Cooper
5-2 junior guard
Ralston averaged seven points, 1.8 assists and 2.8 steals for the Lady Cougars.
Joyah Maroney, Abilene Wylie
5-11 sophomore guard/forward
Maroney averaged 6.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and a steal for the Lady Bulldogs.
Jenna Lambert, Anson
Senior guard
Lambert averaged 8.1 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.4 steals for the Lady Tigers.
Addi Shugart, Aspermont
Senior guard
Shugart averaged 11.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and four steals for the Lady Hornets. She was the district offensive MVP.
Mylee Van Meter, Aspermont
5-6 junior guard
Van Meter averaged 10 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 3.3 steals for the Lady Hornets.
Matilda Galvan, Ballinger

Galvan averaged 10.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.2 steals for the Lady Cats.
Kasey Solis, Bangs

Solis averaged nine points, six rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.4 steals for the Lady Dragons.

Jamison averaged 11 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.4 steals for the Lady Bucks.
Emily Jackson, Bronte
5-7 senior forward
Jackson averaged 15 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals.
Hannah Deen, Brownwood
5-8 sophomore guard
Deen averaged 7.1 points and 8.2 rebounds in being named the district newcomer of the year.

Braley Brunson, Cisco
5-9 senior forward
Brunson averaged 15 points, 7.8 rebounds, four assists and four steals for the Lady Lobes. She was the District 10-2A co-MVP.
Brooklyn Hurtado, Cisco
6-3 senior post
Hurtado averaged 15 points, seven rebounds and 1.4 blocks for the Lady Loboes. She was the District 10-2A offensive MVP.
Madisyn Renteria, Coahoma
5-7 sophomore guard
Renteria averaged 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks for the Bulldogettes.
Baylor Wright, Coahoma
5-9 junior guard
Wright averaged 12 points and four rebounds for the Bulldogettes.
Kinsey Glasgow, Comanche
5-4 junior guard
Glasgow averaged 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and five steals, and she was the District 8-3A co-defensive MVP.
J’Lee Salinas, Comanche
5-9 sophomore guard
Salinas averaged 12 points, five assists, five rebounds, five blocks and three steals for Comanche.
Tori Taylor, Cross Plains
5-8 senior forward
Taylor averaged 19.9 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 4.5 steals in being named the District 13-1A co-MVP.
Cadence Wedeking, Cross Plains

Wedeking averaged 12.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists and three steals for the Lady Buffs.
Nyellie Lee, Eula
5-10 junior forward
Lee averaged 12.8 points and 6.5 rebounds for the Lady Pirates.
Delia Crain, Gorman
5-11 sophomore forward
Crain averaged 14.9 points, 12 rebounds, 4.9 assists, two blocks and 3.9 steals. She was the 19-1A Newcomer of the Year.
Kayce Coleman, Haskell

Coleman averaged 7.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and two steals.
Destiny Hopkins, Hermleigh
5-6 senior forward
Hopkins averaged 13.2 points, six rebounds and 2.8 steals, and she was the District 14-1A Offensive MVP.

Callaway averaged 12.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.7 steals for the Lady Cards.

Grohman averaged 10.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.2 steals in being named the District 6-3A co-MVP.
Lexi Wishert, Jim Ned
5-9 senior guard
Wishert averaged 10.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 steals and 1.7 steals for the 35-2 Region I-3A finalists. She was the District 6-3A co-Defensive MVP.
Kaidy Ornelas, Roscoe

Averaged 11 points, four assists and five steals for Roscoe.
Aaliyah Braziel, Snyder

Braziel averaged 13.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.1 steals and 0.6 assists for the Lady Tigers.

Lefevre averaged 9.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.9 blocks for the Lady Bulldogs.
Chayni Chamberlain, Stephenville

Chamberlain, a transfer from Huckabay, averaged 13 points, three assists, five rebounds and five steals for the 1A state finalists last season. She was the District 19-1A co-MVP and an all-state selection.
Lucy Espinoza, Stephenville
5-9 junior guard/forward
Espinoza, an all-state player last season, averaged 5.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.3 deflections and two steals per game for the region semifinalist Honeybees.
Aunisti Griffin, Sweetwater
5-7 senior forward
Griffin averaged 7.9 points, six rebounds, 2.6 assists and three steals for the Lady Mustangs.
Lily Cunningham, Throckmorton
5-8 senior forward
Cunningham averaged 19.1 points, 11.5 rebounds and 4.3 steals. She was the District 21-1A co-Offensive MVP.
Mady Shield, Throckmorton
Senior guard
Shield averaged 10.2 points, 4.7 assists and 4.4 steals in being named the district’s co-defensive MVP.
