Teams have until 16:00 ET to make sure they have acquired the players and prospects that they want for the latest NFL season as the trade deadline hits on October 31.

After the deadline closes, teams cannot trade for players for the remainder of the season although they will have until November 14 to sign unrestricted free agents and other certain types of player.

Then from January 8 teams will be able to trade for players for the 2024 season and will be able to extend certain types of contracts for rookies and fifth-year options for 2021 Draft picks.

The trade period resumes on March 13, 2024 at 16:00 ET, with teams being notified of that fact.

Thus, it’s a busy time for General Managers and Front Offices as they rush to give themselves the best chance of reaching Super Bowl LVIII at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas which is currently scheduled for February 11, two weeks after the conclusion of the AFC and NFC Championship games.

Buyers:

It’s absolutely no surprise that the teams towards the top of the pile are bidding to improve their rosters and push for that sweet Super Bowl glory. After all, when the quality is so high at that level of football one small chink in the armour could lead to a brutal stab through the heart in postseason.

Sellers:

To be honest, these teams aren’t doing great and could look to target future seasons instead of focusing on short-term gratification. If you have a good asset, then what’s the point of running down their value to finish way off the pace anyway? It’s better to get some prospects and continue the natural cycle.

The Jets could trade, as the New York side might look to replace Aaron Rodgers and Zach Wilson with the former out injured and the latter not really lighting the world up.

But it isn’t a big surprise that most of these sides, who aren’t bad but aren’t good, are happy to just wait to see how the season fares instead of re-mortgaging their franchise and futures.

Who knows? Maybe a trip to the Super Bowl through the wild card games could be on the books.
