Women’s Tennis Hosts Rainbow Wahine Invitational – University of … – Hawaii Athletics
HONOLULU–The University of Hawai’i women’s tennis team hosts the Rainbow Wahine Invitational this week at the UH Tennis Complex. UH will take on Hawai’i Pacific in th three day event which begins on Thursday, Nov. 2 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 4. Thursday’s matches will begin at 5:00 p.m. HT, Friday’s at 3:30 p.m. HT and 10:00 a.m. HT on Saturday morning. All matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex.

Six member of the Rainbow Wahine squad most recently competed in the ITA’s Southwest Regional Championships in San Diego, Calif.. In doubles, all three of UH’s pairings won their Round of 64 matches but then fell in the Round of 32. The UH duo of Ana Vilcek and Sheena Masuda almost advanced to the Round of 16, but dropped a heart-breaking tiebreaker to UCSD’s Katelyn Vu and Kelly Leung, 8-7 (7).
Four of six Rainbow Wahine–Nikola Homolkova, Nelly Knezkova, Sheena Masuda and Vilcek–advanced to the Round of 64. Vilcek had the longest run, advancing to the Round of 16. She started defeating UC Riverside’s Kamya Nair, 6-0. 6-1 in the Round of 128, then knocked off Arizona’s Martyna Ostrzygalo in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. In the Round of 32, Vilcek survived and advanced. After falling in the first set, Vilcek got stronger as the match went on, defeating UCLA’s Elise Wagle, 3-6, 6-2, 6-1. Vilcek run came to an ed in the Round of 16, falling by a break in both sets to San Diego’s seventh-seeded Claudia De Las Heras, 6-4, 7-5.
