Field hockey, tennis, cross country champions crowned Saturday – WJAR


It was a busy Saturday on the high school sports scene.

Field hockey, tennis, and cross country state championships were held.

Field hockey:

State Championship:

East Greenwich defeated Moses Brown 3-2 in double overtime.

Division I title:

North Kingstown beat South Kingstown 2-1 in double overtime.

Division II title:

Lincoln beat Chariho 3-0.

Tennis:

Slater Park was the host of the State Tennis Tournament where three winners would be crowned champions.

Division I:

La Salle (10th Straight Title) defeated North Kingstown 4-1.

“It feels amazing, we worked really hard for this just to come out and do it my last year with this team feels really good,” said La Salle senior Arianna DeThomas.

Division II:

South Kingstown defeated Chariho 4-2.

“It feels so good, the team and I worked really hard for this and this is such a big accomplishment for us because we really put in the time and effort and we feel really good about this,” said sophomore Alexa Clark.

Division III:

Providence Country Day defeated East Providence 4-2.

“It was such a good time, it feels amazing,” said junior Eloise Wetherby.

Ok so basically, all three of our fall teams are going to state and we know volleyball and soccer are going to winit’s just amazing,” added Sophomore, Mays Miller.

Cross Country:

Girls state champions: Cumberland

Boys state champions: Bishop Hendricken

Girls state meet: Rory Sullivan (St. Ray’s)

Boys state meet: Sam Henderson (Cumberland)
