Novak Djokovic described his wins against Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in the final two matches of the ATP Finals as the best performance of his incredible season and that statistics back up his sentiments. 

Djokovic turned on the style to beat the best two young players in the world on consecutive days, with the flawless nature of his tennis highlighted by some staggering statistics.

In two high-quality matches where the level of tennis was as good as anything we have seen in 2023, Djokovic made just eight unforced errors in the two wins against Alcaraz and Sinner.

Incredibly, he made just three unforced errors in the entire match against Alcaraz, with just one coming off his racket in the second set of the semi-final.

Djokovic backed that up with another remarkable performance against Sinner, as he offered up his opponent just five unforced errors.

After key factor in his successes against Alcaraz and Sinner was his impressive statistics on serving.

Alcaraz produced a remarkable 84 per-cent first serve percentage against Djokovic in their last four clash and yet the Serbian found a way to repel his arrowing delivery and win in straight sets.

Djokovic also had an impressive 67 per-cent win rate on his second serve against Alcaraz, which is a winning percentage in most matches.

He backed that up with a 91 per-cent winning rate on his first serves against Sinner in the final, after losing just three points from 32 when he got his first serve in.

He was also prolific on his second serve once again, winning nine of 14 points.

These are statistics that confirm Djokovic still holds a significant advantage over the best two young players in the game and he is already looking forward to cementing that dominance heading into 2024.

“These were the best two performances of the year against Alcaraz and Sinner, no doubt,” confirmed Djokovic.

“This was an incredibly high level of tennis. I’m very grateful that I was able to play like this.

“The match against Alcaraz and then in the final against the whole stadium backing Jannik to win the trophy, I delivered when I needed to.

“When I clinched the year-end No 1, I felt satisfied with that and I wasn’t fully into my remaining group matches.

“Then when I got the chance to play in the semi-finals, I was up for that and delivered my A-game, no doubt.

“It’s very special. To crown it with a win against the hometown hero Jannik, who’s played amazing tennis this week, it’s phenomenal.

“I’m very proud of the performances these last two days against (Carlos) Alcaraz and Sinner, probably the best two players in the world next to me and (Daniil) Medvedev at the moment.

“The way they have been playing I had to step it up, I had to win the matches and not wait for them to hand me the victory and that’s what I’ve done.

“I played tactically different today than in the group stages against Jannik and just overall a phenomenal week.

“I need to pick the tournaments I play at this stage of my career, but wherever I play I want to win.”

Djokovic is now looking forward to his final event of 2023, as he will look to guide Serbia to their first Davis Cup success in teh finals that are being played in Malaga, Spain next week.
