The Nets are hurting a bit — literally and metaphorically. They sorely miss Ben Simmons (back) and Cam Thomas (ankle), and they’ve lost back-to-back games against the Heat and 76ers, though a recent injury status update should provide fans some reassurance.
They can really use this one against the Hawks, a team that’s scoring 122.4 points per game — the third-most in the NBA.

Brooklyn Nets Injury Update…
- Ben Simmons (left lower back nerve impingement) is continuing to improve with treatment and has begun light individual court work. Simmons, who has missed the past six games, will have his status updated again in 7-10 days.
- Dennis Smith Jr. underwent an MRI, which confirmed the previous diagnosis of a lower back sprain. Smith, who has missed one game with the injury (Nov. 19 vs. Philadelphia), will continue to receive treatment and is currently listed as day-to-day.
- Cam Thomas (left ankle sprain) has made significant improvement and has been cleared for increased on-court activity. He is expected to be integrated into team activities next week as he progresses with his return-to-play program.

“Relatively speaking, home back-to-backs are better than the alternative. After Friday night’s loss to the Sixers, the Hawks got a few days off and have been home relaxing all week. If the NBA is going to keep the B2Bs going, that’s the best way to do it.
One field goal attempt. That’s what happened for Mikal Bridges on Sunday after he took it to the Sixers to the tune of 16 points in the first half. When you’re the team’s best player, you have to insist on getting the ball and making something happen. For Bridges, that means going for his own shot a bit more and forcing the issue when the time calls for it.”
