The Miller Beach Arts and Creative District (MBACD) will host its annual community art show, “Our Community Wonderland,” Friday through Jan. 19 at the Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts, 540 S. Lake St., Gary. An Opening Reception will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, which includes a cash bar and light refreshments. An Artist Talk will be held from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. The exhibit draws together artists from many backgrounds across the NWI region, and features an eclectic and fanciful exhibit of paintings, drawings, sculpture, installations, jewelry and folk art. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday; 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. More information can be found at millerbeacharts.org.

Ivy Tech Community College offers Uber vouchers for round-trip rides to and from Ivy Tech campuses on Tuesdays. The rides are part of Tuesdays@TheTech, which are events hosted at Ivy Tech locations to help current, new and prospective students apply and enroll in classes. A $100 Uber voucher is available per student that includes a round trip ride on Tuesdays between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. to and from an Ivy Tech campus within a 25-mile radius. Riders must be 18 or older, and are responsible for any costs incurred over the $100 voucher. Vouchers are good on Tuesdays only. Uber terms and conditions apply and shall be provided upon distribution or claiming of the voucher. Locations participating in the partnership between Tuesdays@TheTech and Uber include Crown Point, East Chicago, Gary and Valparaiso. The Northwest Indiana Rugby Club will celebrate 50 years of rugby in Northwest Indiana on Dec. 9 at the Halls of Justice, 220 S. Main St., Crown Point. Doors will open at 4:30. Community Hospital, St. Catherine Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center again have earned Gold status from the National Safe Sleep Hospital Certification Program for their commitment to best practices and education on infant safe sleep. The program was created in 2015 by Cribs for Kids, which is dedicated to preventing infant sleep-related deaths due to sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) and accidental suffocation. All three hospitals are recognized for following the safe sleep guidelines recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and providing training programs for healthcare team members and family caregivers. Indiana University Northwest’s Center for Urban and Regional Excellence (CURE) has three upcoming classes that are free for seniors age 55 and older. “Wellness on the Web,” an introductory session to online health and wellness resources, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday via Zoom. Register by Noon Friday. “History of the Guitar in Jazz,” a two-part series with jazz pianist and composer Billy Foster, will be offered at 6 p.m. Dec. 11 and Dec. 14 via Zoom. Register by Noon Dec. 8. “Phishing and Identity Theft” will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 13 in-person at the Crown Point Community Library, 122 N Main St. Register by Noon Dec. 5.
