Lucknow: We are just ‘consuming’, not ‘creating’ content. One writes for one’s satisfaction and at times for money.
Though money is important, satisfaction is also a must, therefore, one should take the middle path so that both can be achieved.
Actor Priya Malik gave this mantra to budding writers and creative people on a cool, colourful and literary winter evening on the second day of the Repertwahr season 11 on Saturday.
“To be a good writer, you should be an avid reader. The more you read, the better you write. ‘Hum kabhi pet ke liye likhte hain, kabhi rooh ke liye, isliye hamein chahiye jo bhi hum likhein usme paise aur sukoon dono ho (Sometimes we write for ourselves and at times for money. Therefore, whatever we write, we should get money and satisfaction both,” she said.
Theatre actor and singer Namit Das said, “At times we just talk about what we plan to do, we don’t do it, hence that plan is of no use. ‘Shuruat hamesha karne se hoti hai sochne se nahi’ (simply thinking and not doing anything won’t take you anywhere).”
Social media star and spoken word artist Nayab Midha said that debates at home made her write and say something unique. “Debates give a kick to writing skills,” she said.
Director Saurabh Nayyar talked about the play ‘Golden Jubilee’ by noted Hindi writer Harishankar Parsai which is a satire on the Hindi cinema of the ’60s and ’70s.

MC writes to DC to fix mayoral election date
Ahead of the election for mayor, senior deputy mayor, and deputy mayor in Chandigarh, the municipal corporation has requested the deputy commissioner to fix the polling date. The election will be held under the supervision of the UT administration. The MC will issue a notice to political parties to file nomination papers. The Chandigarh Police will provide security during the proceedings. The MC has clarified the nomination process for mayor candidates.
