ACB takes action against three Afghan players ahead of IPL 2024, holds off NOC

The prospect of seeing Afghanistani Players Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq in the IPL 2024 season has become murky as the Cricket Board of Afghanistan has denied NOCs (No Objection Certificate) for the next two years. The situation arose after the players requested to be released from their central contracts. ACB deemed their request as their attempt to put their interests over national duty. The three players have been active in the franchise cricket fraternity.

The ACB put up a statement on social media, mentioning that they have imposed sanctions on the cricketers.

‘The Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to delay the 2024 annual central contracts for national players, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazal Haq Farooqi, and Naveen Ul Haq Mureed. Additionally, the Board has opted not to grant them No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for the next two years following their intention to be released from their annual central contracts,’ the statement said.

The statement further mentioned that the ACB appointed a special committee to look into the issue in depth, and it will conduct an in-depth probe into the issue.

Will AFG’s denial of NOC affect the players’ IPL 2024 campaign?

Given the fact that Mujeeb-ur-Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen-ul-Haq are a part of the IPL 2024, the denial of NOCs will prevent them from competing in franchise cricket. The Kolkata Knight Riders brought Mujeeb for ₹ 2 crore in the IPL Auction 2024, Naveen and Fazalfaq are a part of the Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad, respectively. However, ACB’s sanctions could put a damper on the teams’ plans.
