Slick Sané tops assists charts – Bundesliga


Leroy Sané currently leads the standings when it comes to assists in the Bundesliga, but Florian Wirtz and Xavi Simons are among a highly talented pack right behind Bayern’s No10. bundesliga.com charts the lead providers of 23/24 so far…

1. Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich), eight assists

He is now into his fourth season at the Bundesliga champions, but Sané is taking his game to a new level. The presence of goalscoring extraordinaire Harry Kane in the Bayern frontline has freed up the German international winger to do what he does best – run at defenders and twist them this way and that. He has formed a deadly duo with the new strike star – providing five of his assists for Kane. Sané’s eight assists are more than any other player in the Bundesliga can boast after 16 matchdays. He also set up more shots than anyone else in the league (45) and scored eight times himself.

2. Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), seven assists

Arguably nobody has shone for Xabi Alonso‘s ensemble of diamonds quite as brightly as Wirtz. The 20-year-old’s sumptuous skills and mazy runs have made vital contributions to his side’s incredible unbeaten run and march to top spot over the winter break. He already has more assists to his name than he managed last season (six). 

2. Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), seven assists

Equal with WIrtz in second spot, dynamic young Dutchman Xavi has well and truly burst onto the international football scene during a spectacular first half of a season for Leipzig. His superb playmaking ability has helped him to seven assists so far. They all fell within his first 11 appearances. No Leipzig player had ever before recorded so many assists at that stage of the season.

2. Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen), seven assists

Another of the group on seven assists, Boniface has proved to be a veritable bundle of attacking prowess and has made a major contribution to Leverkusen laying the foundations for a title bid this spring. He has smashed some ten goals so far, but has also matched creative force Wirtz as Leverkusen’s lead assist provider by setting up seven strikes. Only Harry Kane (26) and Serhou Guirassy (18) boast more than his 17 goal involvements so far. 

2. Julian Brandt (Borussia Dortmund), seven assists

Brandt has been a key figure for Borussia Dortmund so far this season. As well as providing more assists than any other man in Black and Yellow, he is the club’s joint-leading scorer of the season so far (scoring five along with Niclas Füllkrug and Donyell Malen). The Germany international has set up the second most shots of anyone in the Bundesliga to date (44).

2. Jan-Niklas Beste (Heidenheim), seven assists

Newly promoted Heidenheim have been one of the surprises of the season so far. Three wins in a row to finish 2023 with took them into the top half of the table. Beste has been an iconic force in their invariably plucky performances with his set-piece mastery proving a vital weapon. His seven assists so far are way more than any other Heidenheim player, while he has scored five times himself.
