Baylor tennis squads picked fourth, fifth in Big 12 polls – Waco Tribune-Herald


The Big 12 Tennis Preseason Polls were announced on Wednesday by the league, as voted on by conference coaches. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own squads.

Baylor men’s tennis was picked fourth with 32 points, sitting between the Oklahoma State (33) at third and Oklahoma in fifth (28). Texas was voted on top of the Big 12 with seven first place votes 49 total points while TCU received one first place vote and a total 43 points. UCF and Texas Tech tied for sixth with 16 points and BYU rounded out the eight-team poll with seven points.

The Bears wrapped the 2023 season in the first round of the NCAA Championship, making a 25th-straight appearance in the tournament. Baylor finished the Big 12 regular season in a three-way tie with OU and Tech and was given the fifth seed in the league tournament where it fell in a close first round match to the Sooners.

The Baylor women’s tennis team was voted fifth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll with one first place vote and a total of 111 points. The Bears reached the second round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament, making its 24th postseason appearance and third consecutive trip after missing the tournament in 2019.

Oklahoma State was voted first with eight first place votes and 161 points. Texas followed in second with four first place votes and Oklahoma took third with one first place vote and 148 points. Newcomer UCF was tabbed just ahead of Baylor with 126 points.

Texas Tech (108), Kansas (103), TCU (78), BYU (66) and K-State (64) rounded up the top 10 while Iowa State (46), West Virginia (44), Cincinnati (32) and Houston (27) follow in the last four spots.
