No. 3 Men’s Tennis amasses 11 wins on day two of the Miami Spring Invite – University of Texas Athletics


Coral Gables, Fla. – No. 3 Texas Men’s Tennis amassed 11 total wins on day two of the Miami Spring Invite against players from Miami, Arizona State and LSU. The Longhorns overcame windy conditions and an earlier than planned start to win seven of 10 singles matches, along with four of five doubles contests.

Seniors No. 3 Eliot Spizzirri and Cleeve Harper opened the day with 6-1 doubles win over Miami’s Vladislav Melnic and Adrien Burdet while the combination of Siem Woldeab and Pierre-Yves Bailly also earned a win, defeating Martin Katz and Nacho Serra Sanchez of the Hurricanes, 6-3. 

Senior Micah Braswell and freshman Gilles-Arnaud Bailly won their doubles match against Miami’s Antonio Prat and Yannik Rahman, 6-4, while freshman Lucas Brown and sophomore Jonah Braswell defeated Nicola Cigna and Daniel Phillips of Arizona State, 6-3. 
In the lone defeat of the day, seniors Evin McDonald and Eshan Talluri fell to LSU’s Brock Anderson and Chen Dong, 2-6. 

Texas followed their strong doubles performance by winning seven of its 10 singles matches. No. 1 Spizzirri defeated Martin Katz, 5-7, 6-0, 6-1, and No. 2 Micah Braswell defeated Melnic, 6-2, 6-2. No. 28 Jonah Braswell earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Anderson, while No. 82 Harper won his match over Prat, 6-4, 6-2. No. 101 Woldeab beat Burdet, 6-2, 6-0, Brown got the win over Serra Sanchez, 6-2, 6-4, and Evin McDonald closed out the singles wins with a 6-7, 7-6, 6-0 victory over Martin Vergara of Arizona State.
In the remaining singles matches, Gilles-Arnaud Bailly fell to LSU’s Rudy Ceccon, 6-2, 7-6, while his brother Pierre-Yves Bailly came up short in three sets to George Stope of LSU, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2. Talluri then fell to LSU’s Alessio Vasquez, 6-2, 6-3. 

Next up, Texas will face players from LSU on Sunday at 9 a.m. ET/8 a.m. CT.
