A Rough Loss: The Red Devils stuck in a funk with the most recent loss to Utica Proctor – Oneida Dispatch

Going into their latest contest against Utica Proctor, V.V.S. dropped 2 games in a row to Camden and Central Valley Academy. And taking on Utica Proctor was going to be another challenge. The Raiders currently rank as the best team in the Tri-Valley League and have one of the most talented rosters in the area. And that talent propelled Utica Proctor to another big win, taking down Vernon-Verona-Sherrill, 60-36.

The first half was a close battle between both squads. Utica Proctor got off to a quick 6-0 start against V.V.S. The Raiders were playing quickly and running in transition. But a bucket from Atticus Roque got the team and the crowd going. It was then a back-and-forth affair for the remainder of the first half. Roque was the leading scorer for V.V.S. in this one, netting 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Degaragen Paradis chipped in with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals. To close the first half, V.V.S. kept the game within reach, 25-21.

A big piece of the V.V.S. puzzle was missing from the action during this game. V.V.S. senior Elijah Donegan was inactive during this contest. The 24 PPG scorer is 7 points away from 1,000.

In the second half, Utica Proctor started to extend the lead, outscoring V.V.S. 19-10 in the third quarter. Besides Roque and Paradis scoring efforts, not much else in the offensive department for the Red Devils. Utica Proctor played strong defense throughout the game, especially in the second half.
The struggles for V.V.S. continued in the fourth quarter, only netting 5 points while Proctor scored 16. After a tight first half, the Raiders hit a new gear and took over the game, ending with a final of 60-36. The Utica Proctor Raiders continue their hot season, improving to 8-3 and extending their winning streak to three. V.V.S. has now fallen to 4-8 and has lost three in a row. V.V.S. will look to bounce back against the Whitesboro Warriors next week.

Colgate Drops 3-2 Decision to LIU in Series Opener

Colgate dropped a 3-2 overtime decision in its series opener against LIU at Northwell Health Ice Center Friday evening.

The Sharks scored 2:03 into the extra period to take the victory after Grayson Constable found the back of the net. Colgate controlled possession for much of the first portion of overtime but could not generate many scoring chances.

In the first, the Raiders scored two power-play goals to maintain a one-goal lead after 20 minutes. Simon Labelle got things going just under four and a half minutes in. Levi Glasman played the puck to Reid Irwin, who passed back-and-forth with Labelle before the sophomore found a good look at the goal and fired a shot past the goalie.

LIU knotted the score at 1-1 at the 10:12 mark of the first with a power play goal from Austin Brimmer.

Alex DiPaolo then regained the lead for Colgate, scoring with 1:09 left in the first and just seven seconds into a man-up chance. Ross Mitton passed down low to Brett Chorske, who dished the puck across the ice to DiPaolo for a one-timer he slammed home.

The Sharks were the only team to score in the middle frame, with Josh Zary putting one in at the 16:45 mark to tie the game at 2-2.

Colgate had two other power play chances in the game, one in the second and one with just over a minute left in the third that carried over to the extra period, but it could not capitalize.

Carter Gylander made 31 saves in net for the Raiders.
