CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Western Carolina women’s tennis team opened a four-match homestand on Tuesday afternoon, tallying a 4-0 shutout win over Tusculum at the Catamount Athletics Complex. The match was played out in doubles competition and ended in singles play when the first team got to the winning four points.

WCU has now won three straight matches to begin the year marking the fourth time since the start of the 2023 season that the Catamounts have had at least a three-match win streak.

The Pioneers were able to claim the set tie-break at No. 1 to claim that match after WCU had already secured the doubles point.

In singles play, sophomore Dasha Osadova dominated in her singles bout, winning 6-1, 6-2 to push WCU’s lead to 2-0. Groen added a 6-4, 6-2 win in the second flight to extend the advantage to 3-0.

After dropping the second set, Madison Schwarz controlled the third to take it 6-0 en route to helping the Catamounts clinch their third straight victory on Tuesday.

Isabella Sambola led late in her second set before the match was called as WCU had sealed the victory.
