Men’s Tennis Split Weekend in Kearney – McPherson College Athletics

KEARNEY, Neb. — The McPherson College Bulldogs swept Hastings College, before falling to the University of Nebraska-Kearney, an NCAA Division II program, 4-1 Saturday (Feb. 17) in Kearney, Neb.

MATCH ONE – MC 7, HC 0

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start in the opener Friday (Feb. 16) after the doubles team of Oscar Brouwer and Texas Ranger Schmidt swept their match. Arthur Nardy and Marcus Nardy sealed the doubles point, knocking off the Broncos’ top duo 6-4.

In singles, Daniel Marcano made it a 2-0 Bulldog lead with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in the three spot, while Marcus Nardy made quick work of Ethan Mins, winning 6-1, 6-1. Arthur Nardy put the Bulldogs on top with a 6-0, 5-7, 10-7 win in the top singles match, then Simon Delgadillo took down Agustin Lopez 6-0, 6-1.

MATCH TWO – UNK 4, MC 1

Saturday was a tougher outing for the Bulldogs, as the Lopers secured the doubles point with Strzelecki/Brisdon knocking off Nardy/Nardy 6-1. Van den Dungen/Osmond beat the Bulldogs top duo of Martin Millos and Michael Beltran 6-4 to put UNK up 1-0.

In the singles competition, Marcus Nardy leveled the score at 1-1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Jakub Strzelecki. But from there it was all UNK with Marcano, Millos, and Brouwer all falling in straight sets.

Beltran fell in the first set in No. 1 singles 6-3, before taking the second set against the No. 12-ranked player in NCAA Division II by the same score. In the tiebreaker, the score was tied 9-9 when the overall match was called.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Mar. 1, when they host Ottawa University Arizona and Jacksonville College (TX) at the Bulldog Tennis Center.
