Women’s Tennis Set For Weekend Matches Against SIUE and Milwaukee – Illinois State University Athletics


NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women’s tennis team will look to get back to its winning ways this weekend, when the Redbirds compete in a pair of matches against regional foes. ISU will travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, on Friday for match with the SIUE Cougars at 2 p.m., before returning home on Sunday to host Milwaukee at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington at noon.

ABOUT THE REDBIRDS
•    The Redbirds (5-3) are coming off weekend where they dropped two extremely close 4-3 matches to Marshall and DePaul.
•    Senior Tijana Zlatanovic once again shined for the Redbirds, going 2-0 at the No. 1 singles spot in those two contests. On Saturday against Marshall, Zlatanovic cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Johanna Strom and she then picked up a hard-fought three-set win over DePaul’s Eleanor Nobbs by a final of 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 on the road Sunday.

ABOUT THE COUGARS
•    SIUE (5-0) is off to an undefeated start to the spring season, and picked up a pair of wins last weekend at Milwaukee and against St. Thomas.
•    Jill Lambrechts was selected as the co-OVC Player of the Week, while the doubles tandem of Stefaniya Anikina and Amelia Gorman were named the OVC Doubles Team of the Week for their performances in the wins over Milwaukee and St. Thomas.

ABOUT THE PANTHERS
•    Milwaukee (4-4) went 1-2 last week, with losses to Marquette and SIUE and a win over Eastern Illinois.
•    The Panthers came up just short against a very good SIUE last Saturday afternoon by a final of 5-2, despite taking the doubles point against the Cougars only to see SIUE regain momentum with wins on the singles side.
