Richmond Symphony hosts pop-up performance at Ironclad Coffee Roasters – WRIC ABC 8News

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Richmond Symphony did a pop-up performance at Ironclad Coffee Roasters and Baking Co.

On Thursday, Feb. 22, the Richmond Symphony performed at Ironclad Coffee Roasters and Baking Co., located at 1805 East Grace Street in Richmond’s Shockoe Bottom neighborhood, to showcase the musical talents of Dinara Klinton, who will be the featured pianist for the orchestra’s upcoming Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto concerts.

Klinton was invited to perform the concerto by the orchestra’s main conductor and artistic director, Valentino Pileggi, who said they became great friends with after meeting in London.

According to Matt Wilshire, the orchestra’s director of artistic planning, Ironclad was chosen intentionally to host the pop-up performance because it has a piano.

“It’s because when you have a pianist as your artist in residence, you’re limited to locations that have pianos,” Wilshire said.

Klinton, who traveled from the United Kingdom to Richmond for the performance, said the piece she will be playing for the orchestra is magnificent and will feature familiar music for listeners.

“[The piece is] really overwhelming in a sense. It’s like a symphony for the piano against the orchestra. So, it’s going to be a lot of fun, and the tunes are very popular,” Klinton said.

The Richmond Symphony’s performance of Tchaikovsky’s First Concerto will take place on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. at the Carpenter Theatre.
