(RV) Men’s Tennis Falls Short to Morningside, 4-3 – Ottawa Braves
SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. – The Ottawa University men’s tennis team fell just short, 4-3, to Morningside University on Friday afternoon at the First Serve Tennis Center.
Jarmo Perez Wienese and Jhoel Quinonez fell 6-2 in their no. 1 doubles match to Mark Trenkle and Gustav Sjoberg and Morningside led 1-0 in the doubles point. OU’s no. 2 doubles team of Oscar Giorgio and Ben Russel defeated Santiago Minetti and Skandar Ben Abdallah 6-2 to tie the doubles point, 1-1. The Braves took the point in Santiago Tartaglia and Julian Toloza’s no. 3 doubles win over Winyou Asavaruangcha and Abhishek Mohapatra, 6-3.
Ottawa increased its lead to 2-0 with Tartaglia’s 6-4, 6-0 win in no. 4 singles over Sjoberg. The Mustangs cut OU’s lead to 2-1 with Trenkle’s 6-3, 6-1 victory over Perez Wienese in no. 1 singles. MU tied the match with Makhil Raja’s 6-3, 6-3 win over Ben Russell in no. 6 singles, 2-2. Giorgio won his no. 5 singles match 6-3, 6-3 against Kelly to give the Braves a 3-2 lead. Morningside tied the match again with a win in no. 2 singles. Quinonez was defeated 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-0 by Minetti. The Mustangs won the match with their win in no. 3 singles. Toloza lost to Skander Ben Abdallah 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 and MU won, 4-3.
Ottawa (3-3) returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 24 against Doane University in Red Oak, Iowa. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
