Women’s Tennis Posts Shutout Against Cal State Fullerton – Pac-12


LOS ANGELES – The UCLA women’s tennis team earned its second win in as many days Saturday, beating Cal State Fullerton by a 7-0 score at Los Angeles Tennis Center.

Four Bruins, including clincher Tian Fangran, posted two-win days. Just one match reached a third set. UCLA improved to 4-3 on the season, while Fullerton dropped to 5-2.

Playing together for the first time this season, Tian and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer picked up breaks of serve at 1-1 and 4-2 en route to a 6-2 victory against Natalie Duffy and Kaytlin Taylor on Court 2. Lutkemeyer/Tian went 10-2 as a pair in 2022-23. UCLA’s tandem of Ahmani Guichard and Sasha Vagramov also made its initial appearance of 2023-24, jumping out to a 4-0 lead before sealing the point with a 6-3 triumph over Milena Gevorgyan and Seha Yu.

Celebrating her birthday, No. 87 Bianca Fernandez of the Bruins prevailed first on Court 2. Her 6-0, 6-2 performance versus Sein Myoung began a run of wins for the Bruins.

Next off was Lutkemeyer, who bested Yu 6-2, 6-3 on Court 4. Lutkemeyer has won six of her seven decisions in 2024. Fellow sophomore Tian then ensured UCLA’s victory with her 6-3, 6-0 result over Josie Usereau on Court 1. Finishing on her heels was a matchup of nationally-ranked counterparts on Court 3. No. 124 Wagle of the Bruins knocked off No. 117 Natalie Duffy 6-3, 6-4, improving her record opposite ranked singles opponents to 3-0 on the season.

Guichard joined Lutkemeyer in the 10-win club, getting past Taylor by a 6-1, 6-4 margin on Court 5. Then, in the day’s only three-set match, Vagramov outlasted Mariia Nikitash in a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(10) marathon.

In its final contest before the stat of Pac-12 play, UCLA hosts crosstown rival and fifth-ranked USC Friday, March 1. First serve from LATC is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. PT.
