Hallsboro actor talks about his journey going from local to global while giving credit to those who helped him – WECT

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Actor Joshua Shipman is from the small town of Hallsboro, North Carolina, but says his impact has spread far beyond his hometown.

Shipman had a role in the movie ‘Harriet’ in 2019. You may have seen his lead roles in movies like “The Crucible” as John Proctor, “All in the Timing,” “The Waiting Room,” and many more.

He says from a young age he always wanted to do something big with his life. Acting was his passion and what he describes as his God-given talent. He works in the entertainment industry acting, modeling, doing voice-over work, coaching others, writing, and says he hopes to one day work on producing content.

Shipman got a start in his career back in high school where he performed in theatre productions like “Sweet Charity.” Growing up he liked to watch the behind-the-scenes of blockbuster movies which also drove his desire to be an actor.

He says that anyone can do what he now does no matter the place you come from. That is why he goes by the slogan “From local to global.”

Shipman says, “No matter where you are, it’s a mindset thing. Whatever you put your mind to you can do.”

He suggests writing out your dreams or saying affirmations and says just starting somewhere will get you to the bigger picture.

Shipman has a faith-inspired background as well. He gives credit to God and believes that is also what helped him get where he is today.

Shipman is constantly on the road working on assignments, but he hasn’t forgotten his roots. He made a stop by his old elementary school to inspire the kids in his hometown and give thanks to those who helped him on his journey. He says walking in the halls of Hallsboro Middle School was very nostalgic.

Shipman said “All these memories came back to me and I’m like ‘wow.’ This place still looks the same, you know.” The kids were excited to take a picture with him.

Shipman loves inspiring children, starting with his own child at home. He has a seven-year-old son who looks up to him. He even includes his son in projects with him. Shipman wants to let him know that he doesn’t have to take the traditional route of careers to be successful.

He has two independent feature films he is working on, but says he couldn’t disclose too many details. He does say that he also has projects being released this year (2024). The film “Intrigued” will come out in March on Tubi and Amazon Prime. Another project called “Double Standards” will also be released on Tubi and Amazon Prime.
