Tennis Hits the Road Beginning a Four-Match Road Trip This Weekend – University of Cincinnati Athletics – University of Cincinnati Athletics


CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati women’s tennis team will begin a season-long four-match road trip this weekend against its first two ranked opponents this season, No. 20 Oklahoma and No. 7 Texas.
 
The Bearcats’ first stop will be in Norman, Okla. against the Sooners on Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center. First serve against Oklahoma is set for 3 p.m. ET.
 
Cincinnati will then make the trip to Austin, Texas to face off against the Longhorns on Sunday at the Texas Tennis Center. First serve against the Longhorns is set for 12 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast live on the Longhorn Network.
 
The Bearcats (5-4) are looking to bounce back this weekend after falling to Baylor on March 1 and TCU on March 3.
 
The doubles pair of freshman Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe stayed undefeated in doubles play, boasting an unblemished record of 6-0 on the season.

SCOUTING THE SOONERS
This marks the first meeting between the Bearcats and the Sooners in program history.

Oklahoma brings a 5-4 overall record and a 0-1 conference record this season into the match.
 
The Sooners are led by sophomore Julia Garcia Ruiz who is ranked No. 33 in the ITA rankings.
 
Oklahoma’s doubles pair of junior Alina Shcherbinina and senior Dana Guzman are the No. 3 ranked doubles team in the nation.
 
Seven out of the nine opponents the Sooners have faced were ranked. OU lost to No. 12 Ohio State (4-3), No. 4 Michigan (4-3), No. 23 UCF (4-0), No. 19 California (4-3). The Sooners won against No. 12 San Diego (4-3), No. 5 NC State (4-2) and in their last matchup, they fell to Texas (4-3). 
 
SCOUTING THE LONGHORNS
This is the first-ever meeting against the Longhorns.
 
Texas brings an 8-3 overall record and a 1-0 conference mark this season into the weekend before facing off against (11-3) West Virginia on Friday and Cincinnati on Sunday.
 
The Longhorns are led by junior Sabina Zeynalova who is coming off a stellar week, winning BIG 12 Player of the Week honors. Zeynalova moved up to the No. 20-ranked player after beating Oklahoma’s No. 38-ranked Dana Guzman in straight sets, 7-5, 6-1.
 
The Longhorns have faced fierce competition this season, having already played nine ranked teams, winning six of the matchups. They took down Oklahoma (4-3) last weekend, marking their fifth win over a top-15 opponent in the last seven matches.
 
Texas in their other ranked matchups lost to No. 16 UCLA (5-2), No. 3 Oklahoma State (4-3). The Longhorns won against No. 25 Wisconsin (7-0), No. 4 Georgia (4-3), No. 9 Texas A&M (4-2), Ohio State (4-3) and No. 12 Auburn (4-1).
