Tulsa boasts plenty of spring break activities for Green Country students – KOKI FOX 23 TULSA

TULSA, Okla. — In less than a week, schools districts in Green Country will let out for spring break.

For those not heading to the beach, FOX23 has some ideas for fun and educational activities right here in Tulsa.

On Tuesday, FOX23 met families from Kansas and Missouri who are already out on spring break.

One father of four said he really appreciates the break his wallet is taking this week as all activities at the gathering place are free, even the parking cost nothing.

Chelsea and Kyle Henry of Springfield, Missouri, decided to hit the Gathering Place with four kids in tow for spring break this year.

“Supposed to be the best park in America so we had to figure out how to get here and we did it and it’s amazing,” Chelsea said.

Kyle said it lived up to the hype.

“This is great, definitely lived up to the hype,” Kyle said.

For the those wanting to just relax in the sun, there’s plenty of opportunity for that as well.

Beginning Saturday, the Gathering Place will kick off its spring break activities, which includes photo ops, a magic show, a makers space full of crafts, live music and an education zone filled with science activities.

For those more inclined to science, the Discovery Lab will be hosting a number of spring break camps next week.

“We have bio med boot camp,” said Chip Lindsey, director of Education. “And Cirque de science which is about the science of performance and circus acts.”

There are still a few spaces left for 5th and 6th graders and 3rd and 4th graders.

Greenwood Rising tells the story of Tulsa’s historic Greenwood District in an experiential way. The museum, which delves into the history of the Tulsa Race Massacre, provides parents and kids with an educational opportunity as well.

“The value of course, what you get when you come to Greenwood Rising is you hopefully leave here with a desire to do your own investigation, to do further reading and to dive a little deeper and figure out how maybe you can help participate in the issues we’re trying to address,” said Operations Manager Chris Rogers.

The museum will be open Tuesday through Sunday and there are discounts for groups of 20 or more and kids under the age of six are free.

Tulsa Parks will also be offering spring break camps next week at a number of sites including Chamberlain Park, Reed Park Community Center, and Whiteside Community Center.

There will also be an arts camp at the Waterworks Art Center.
