Love and possible destruction • AIPT

Previously on Resident Alien, Harry made a connection with a Blue Avian named Heather. Normally, you would be happy that he found love. But when the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, you probably don’t want our only hope distracted at the task at hand. In “Lovebird,” Asta and D’Arcy try their hardest to keep the good doctor on track.

We only touched the surface in the previous episode surrounding the wackiness of the Heather and Harry relationship. Their affection for each other plus their oddball nature naturally leads to awkward comedy with some nice pop culture odes. The pair borders on obnoxious and outright mean to Harry’s closest friends. But in context, it seems a purposeful choice. Who has never seen how annoying a new couple can be? They might be completely enamored right now, but that can also lead to a messy and dramatic breakup.

Tonight’s Resident Alien isn’t all about Heather and Harry. There are some significant reveals that have a varying degree of impact. The series has a slow steady drip of progress with the Grey’s plans for Earth. There is enough progress to satisfy, but the developments also lead to more intriguing questions that maintain your long term interest. The most exciting aspect is General McCallister’s backup plan with her former/current underling Lieutenant Logan. Though it builds up the anticipation, it does seem to waste a talented actor by keeping his character in a vegetative state.

On the other hand, though some of the other elements helped advance the narrative, they do seem to be questionable. Kate turns to Deputy Liv for more insight into alien abductions. The past two episodes have been negatively painting Liv as a believer to the point where she withdraws from her and the sheriff’s investigation. However during her conversation with the mayor’s wife, she shares her knowledge so confidently and proud that it counters the shame and embarrassed figure we’re lead to believe she’s feeling. It’s some inconsistent behavior to wrap your head around.

Resident Alien has already shown some of Mayor Hawthorne’s history with the Greys, but this week we learn that D’Arcy witnessed his first abduction. Kate wasn’t around when her husband was a kid so it makes sense someone from Patience may have been a witness. However, it would make the Hawthorne’s more compelling if they came to the realizations of their past together reinforcing their bond rather than having an outside party potentially break the news.

“Lovebird” is all about the blossoming and bizarre relationship between Harry and Heather but it incorporates other reveals with mixed results.

New episodes of Resident Alien air Wednesday nights on Syfy.

Resident Alien S 3 E 5 review: ‘Lovebird’

“Lovebird” is all about the blossoming and bizarre relationship between Harry and Heather but it incorporates other reveals with mixed results.

A strange and entertaining romance you can’t take your eyes off of.

The slow burn of the Greys’ plans is satisfying while raising more intrigue.

Questionable decisions surrounding the mayor and his wife.
