Women’s Tennis Drops Close Battle at Charleston – University of Richmond Athletics
CHARLESTON, S.C. – Despite a strong doubles showing, the University of Richmond women’s tennis team dropped a close battle at College of Charleston on Wednesday, 4-2. With the setback, the Spiders fell to 4-4 on the year while the Cougars improved to 9-3 on the year.
How it Happened
Andrea Campodonico and Polina Shitikova started the match with a 6-1 win over Trinkle/Vukicevic (COFC) on court one before Carly Cohen and Lainey O’Neil picked up a 6-3 win over Nayestani/Salvato (COFC) on court three. Lara Bakhaya and Claire Le Du were tied at four against Brotzman/Daniel (COFC), on court two, but the match was left unfinished.
In singles, Campodonico fell to Jekauc (COFC), 6-4, 6-3, to tie the game at one before the Cougars got the go-ahead point on court six as Le Du fell to Nayestani (COFC), 7-5 6-2. Bakhaya tied the game at two with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Salvato (COFC), but the win wasn’t enough as the Spiders dropped two matches on courts four and three for the 4-2 loss.
