Defending Big South Champs Open League Play at Home Versus Longwood on Senior Day – Presbyterian College


The Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-7), who won the Big South Tournament title and captured a share of the Big South regular-season title last season, welcome the Longwood Lancers to the Templeton Tennis Courts for their Big South opening match this Sunday, March 17 at 2 p.m. Before the match, the Blue Hose will honor three-time All-Big South selection Javier Matos on Senior Day.

BLUE HOSE BY THE NUMBERS
Pedro Cardoso leads the team with eight singles wins. David Mamalat has recorded seven wins. Matos has collected six wins all at number one singles. Denim Yadav has posted four singles wins this season. The doubles teams of Matos and Yadav and Cardoso and Evgenios Vasilakis have four wins apiece.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Presbyterian won the doubles point for the sixth time this season and Vasilakis collected a singles win as the Blue Hose lost to the Elon Phoenix, 5-2, at the Oakland Tennis Center in Newberry, South Carolina last Sunday afternoon.
 
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS
Cardoso has earned Big South Men’s Tennis Player of the Week honors twice on February 7 and February 28. For the sixth time in the program’s history, a Blue Hose player has earned multiple Big South Player of the Week awards in the same season.
 
Vasilakis was named Big South Freshman of the Week on February 28. He is the 17th player in the program’s history to earn the award.

SCOUTING LONGWOOD
The Blue Hose have won the last seven meetings between the two teams. Presbyterian defeated Longwood, 7-0, in each of their previous two matches.

Longwood enters the weekend with a 5-3 record. The Lancers defeated Radford, 6-1, at home in their Big South opening match this past Wednesday. Before playing PC on Sunday, Longwood has a road match at UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon.

Alejandro Uribe leads the Lancers with six wins with his victories coming at the number two, three, and four positions. Timeo Puech has recorded five wins with them coming at number one and two singles. The doubles tandems of Uribe and Petar Belosevic and Luis Reis and Seva Rusin share the team lead with three wins apiece.
