UC San Diego Outlasts Men’s Tennis in Pair of 4-3 Decisions – Boston University Athletics

LA JOLLA, Calif. – Competing in its final scheduled doubleheader of the year, the Boston University men’s tennis team came up just short in two tightly-contested 4-3 decisions at UC San Diego Friday evening.

The Tritons (6-13) extended their win streak to three matches following a 4-3 upset win over No. 51 Indiana by capturing both doubles points and six of the 12 singles points against the Terriers (11-7). Sophomore Corey Craig led BU with a 2-0 singles mark, highlighted by a 6-3, 7-6, victory over Carson Lee, a five-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net.

In the first contest, freshman Gustavs Dambins and senior Jose Maria Robalino posted a 6-3 win in No. 3 doubles, but the Tritons earned a 6-3 victory at line 1 and then edged the duo of senior Jonah Dickson and junior Adrian Pawlowski, 7-6, to earn a 1-0 lead.

During singles play, senior Ben Letzer joined Craig with a straight sets win by claiming a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the No. 6 slot. Dambins also prevailed in his respective match on court 5 in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 decision.

UCSD though claimed a pair of singles in points in straight sets at lines 2 and 3. The Tritons also broke late in the second set against senior Jonah Dickson en route to a 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 win on court 3 for the 4-3 team victory.

In the rematch, Dickson and Pawlowski picked up a 6-3 doubles victory in the No. 3 slot, but UCSD earned the doubles point by winning the top two matches by a combined score of 12-6.
