Warriors down Marshfield, North Bend in girls tennis – Philomath News


The Philomath High girls tennis team swept a doubleheader Thursday at the Boys and Girls Club of Southwestern Oregon in Coos Bay with victories of 8-0 over Marshfield and 7-1 over North Bend. 

In the 15 victories against the two schools, PHS won every one of those matches in straight sets.

The lone loss of the day came at No. 1 singles with Philomath senior Bailey Bell falling to North Bend sophomore Raegan Farm, 6-2, 6-0. Farm was last year’s No. 1 seed in the 4A state tournament and defeated Bell in the semifinals to reach the championship match. Klamath Union’s Patricia Dougherty beat Farm for the 4A title.

Bell earlier in the day defeated Marshfield’s Gwyn Button at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Junior Adele Beckstead gave up only one game in victories of 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0 over Marshfield and North Bend, respectively. Senior Megan Reese was a winner at No. 3 singles vs. Marshfield and No. 4 singles vs. North Bend. Senior Elise Reese was the No. 3 winner vs. the Pirates and No. 4 winner against the Bulldogs.

At doubles, seniors Daniella Carlisle and Nadia Durski posted wins of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 7-5 while playing in the No. 1 position. Senior Lorelei Schell and sophomore Lucie Oster had wins of 6-4, 6-2 and 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Maggie King and freshman Clara Neville were 6-2, 6-0 (No. 3 doubles va. Marshfield) and 6-0, 6-0 (No. 4 vs. North Bend). Sophomore Lucy King and sophomore Logan Cook posted wins of 7-5, 6-4 (No. 4 vs. Marshfield) and 6-0, 6-0 (No. 3 vs. North Bend).

The tennis girls will now get a break until April 2 with a trip to Marist Catholic on the schedule.
