Columbus girls tennis defeats LNW, boys golf places fourth at Lincoln High – Columbus Telegram
Columbus High girls tennis and boys golf began their seasons on Thursday.
Columbus girls tennis defeated Lincoln Northwest 7-2 in Thursday’s dual at Lincoln Standing Bear. The Discoverers won five singles matches and two doubles matches.Â
Junior Alyn Estrada-Morales, sophomore Carley Kapels and junior Makara Beringer won their respective singles matches 8-1. Senior Maggie Luebbe won 8-2 and senior Taylor Loontjer posted an 8-4 win.
In doubles, Loontjer and Luebbe won 8-2. Kapels and Warner were victorious 8-3.
The Discoverers’ next dual is Tuesday at Norfolk.
Golf
The Discoverers teed off at Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln for the Lincoln High Invite.
Columbus featured two medalists in juniors Keaton Barnes and Owen Lawrence. Barnes claimed bronze scoring a 76. He shot a 37 on the front nine and a 39 on the back nine.

Lawrence secured his first career varsity golf medal placing 10th. He carded an 84 with a front-nine score of 37.
As a team, Columbus placed fourth with a team score of 357. Gretna won the tournament with a score of 301. Lincoln Northeast claimed runner-up carding a 329.
Tyler Arnold recorded a 95, Carter Sedlacek posted a 102 and Noah Degn scored a 104.
The Discoverers’ next meet is Friday at the Grand Island Invite at Riverside Golf Club.
