Make It 10 Wins For Both CUI Tennis Teams – Concordia University Irvine Athletics


IRVINE, Calif. – The Golden Eagles tennis teams took on the visiting squad Hilo Vulcans, which was a dominant display for the program.

The first team to start Friday’s competition was the women’s team, and got the ball rolling. Doubles matches began, and the Vulcans and Golden Eagles were head-to-head in terms of winning one doubles match, and then CUI would win one. The clinching game to give CUI the point was an impressive display of drop shots, power, and wisdom from Bryn Johnson and Emilie Lugon-Moulin to lead 1-0 going into singles.

Heading into the singles, unfortunately, three matches were unfinished, but the matches that did finish included Sophie Rachor winning with scores of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4; Emilie Lugon-Moulin winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-1; and the last game for the CUI sweep was Tiffany Carrillo winning 6-1, 6-1. CUI women’s tennis won with a final score of 4-0.

Moving onto the men’s tennis matches, the Golden Eagles followed up with their teammates in another dominant display. The men’s matches were highly competitive, including the doubles matches. Spencer Cinco and Lemiel Tairahoy clinched the point for CUI to lead 1-0 going into singles matches.

Max Renz led CUI to its first singles win 6-2, 6-3, followed by Spencer Cinco winning 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, and the match solidified the game was Lemiel Tairahoy winning 6-3, 6-2. The final score of the CUI men’s team was 4-3.
