Germany face Bundesliga-heavy Netherlands – Bundesliga

Several of the German top-flight’s finest will line up for the Netherlands as they face Germany at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park on Tuesday (kick-off: 8.45pm CET).

Latest

Germany produced possibly their best performance so far under Julian Nagelsmann as they ran out 2-0 winners over France on Saturday. Florian Wirtz got his nation off to the perfect start by scoring after just seven seconds, registering his first senior international strike and setting a new record for Germany’s fastest ever goal in the process. The returning Toni Kroos set up that rapid opener and made a big impression in his first international outing since 2021, while Wirtz’s former Bayer Leverkusen teammate Kai Havertz scored the second. Havertz was preferred in attack to Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Füllkrug, who could come in to lead the line against the Dutch. Jamal Musiala continued his impressive form by providing Havertz’s goal and is becoming an essential figure for both club and country. The Stuttgart trio of Deniz Undav, Maximilian Mittelstädt and Waldemar Anton all made their international debuts in Lyon, while Maximilian Beier will be hoping to follow suit and pick up his first cap this week. Manuel Neuer picked up a small injury in training and has returned to Bayern Munich ahead of Der Klassiker, with former Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen starting in goal. He’s likely to do so again.

The Netherlands, meanwhile, were 4-0 victors over Scotland last time out as Ronald Koeman’s men continued their preparations for Euro 2024. The Oranje are currently on a four-match winning streak and finished second in their qualifying group behind 2022 FIFA World Cup finalists France, which was enough to secure their place at next summer’s continental showpiece. They will also play Les Bleus in the group stages, along with Austria and one qualifier yet to be confirmed, so they will need to be at their best to progress. Against Germany, Koeman can call upon a quintet of Bundesliga players in his quest for victory. In his debut campaign at RB Leipzig, Xavi Simons has been a revelation, netting seven goals and nine assists in the Bundesliga, while no Dortmund player has managed more than Donyell Malen‘s 11 top-flight goals this campaign. Hoffenheim striker Wout Weghorst will be looking to add to his eight strikes at international level, while Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong and Bayern’s Matthijs de Ligt will put their teams’ title race to one side as they line up as teammates here.
