Mariners Fall to Gyrenes in Sunday Conference Matchup – College of Coastal Georgia – Coastal Georgia
AVE MARIA, Fla. – The College of Coastal Georgia men’s tennis team suffered a 4-2 loss to the Ave Maria Gyrenes on Sunday afternoon.
The day started with the Gyrenes (4-5, 3-1 TSC) taking the doubles point, as Adrien Guye and Kevin Leuenberger fell at the No. 2 line by a 6-4 final, while Felix Arroyo Viglino and Santiago Speranza fell at No. 3 doubles 6-2.
Trailing 1-0 into singles play, the (12) Mariners (4-5, 1-1 TSC) could never gain their momentum back, as they ultimately fell by a final of 4-2. Viglino did provide a spark early, winning the No. 6 singles line in straight sets 6-4 6-2, as Aymeric Bruno also handled No. 3 singles in straight sets 6-1 6-3. Leuenberger had won his first set 6-1 and was locked in a battle in the second set when the match was called off. The Gyrenes took care of line one, two, and five in order to clinch the match and the Sun Conference victory.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Mariners as they travel to Hialeah, Fla. to take on Florida National on Monday afternoon. First serve is set for 12:00 p.m.
