Women’s Tennis Improve to 5-5 after Close Win over William Smith – Ithaca College

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Ithaca College women’s tennis team picked up a tight 5-4 victory on the road on Friday over William Smith. The win marked IC’s first Liberty League victory of the season as they move to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in league play as the Herons dropped to 3-7 on the season, and 0-2 in conference play.
The Bombers earned two of the three points available during double play. In the No. 1 slot, the duo of Taylor Crain and Lauren Rodriguez took down Haley Levine and Isabelle Going-Perr by 8-4 score. Maddie Sutro and Ava Casell-Lapetina were also successful as they won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play was thrilling on Friday as Taylor Crain was able to clinch the first win on the evening as she defeated Haley Levine by set scores of 6-1, 6-1. The Bombers also saw Sabrina Cheung take a victory as she defeated Mae Kellersman 6-1, 6-3. In arguably the most competitive match and the one that clinched the overall win for Ithaca, Ava Casell-Lapetina was able to narrowly defeat Grace Magna by scores of 6-7 (1-7), 6-0 and 6-3.
Ithaca College will take on Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. on Saturday, April 6 for a Liberty League matchup slated to begin at 2 p.m.
