Women’s Tennis Wins 6-3 Over Grinnell and Luther – Gustavus Adolphus College – Gustavus Athletics
SAINT PETER, Minn. – The Gustavus women’s tennis team won a pair of matches Saturday at the Swanson Tennis Center. The Gusties defeated both Grinnell and Luther by identical scores of 6-3, improving to 4-2 on the season.
Gustavus started the morning against previously undefeated Grinnell (10-1) and won two of three doubles matches. The top team of Molly Austin and Allison Szalay won 8-6 as did the No. 2 team of Kaya De Bruijn and Bethany Smith.
In singles play, Szalay, Austin, Alli Laux, and De Bruijn won in straight sets at the top four positions. Luther claimed the Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
Later in the afternoon, the Gusties again began their match against Luther by claiming two of three doubles. Szalay and Austin won 8-4 at No. 1 and Laux and Brooke Haddorff won 8-6 at No. 3.
The Gusties then claimed the Nos. 3-6 singles in straight sets while Szalay and Austin battled and lost in third set breakers at Nos. 1 and 2.
Gustavus hosts Northwestern-Iowa, Bethany Lutheran, and Concordia next Saturday.
