Drag brunch returns to New Orleans Jazz and Heritage festival

Organizer Poppy Tookers says this year’s brunch is the best yet.

Back by popular demand, Drag brunch at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.Culinary expert and event organizer Poppy Tooker said it is going to be the best one yet.Tooker wanted to bring the event to the festival in 2020 after she published her book “Drag Queen Brunch,” however the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In 2022, Tooker and three New Orleans Drag queens, Debbie with A Degree, Laveau Contraire, and Ms. Licci, debuted the event at the Jazz Fest stage. While this may have been the three queen’s first appearance at the festival, this wasn’t the first for Tooker herself. “I have been doing demos on the Food Heritage Stage for over 30 years, some jazz fests I’ve done two demos, some I’ve just done one. But all I know is that nobody brings a crowd to the Food Heritage Stage like the drag queens do,” Tooker said. “So that’s how when they were planning the festival this year and they wanted to switch things up at the Food Heritage Stage, they decided to make it Drag Queen brunch all the time Saturday and Sunday.”Debbie, Laveau and Ms. Licci are paying tribute to Taylor Swift and Beyonce on Saturday, April 27.The best part is that it’s a free experience, and no reservation is needed.Tooker said her productions are always G-rated, so you can bring the whole family.There will be showings at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday of both weekends.You can expect each show to have its own flavor.
